Commonly Asked Questions

Who is People’s Community Bank and why are you using that name in South Carolina?

People’s Community Bank is a Division of First Community Bank. They are both part of the First Community family of services. In South Carolina and Tennessee, our bank is known as People’s Community Bank; in those two states there is another bank that is using the First Community name. The great news is that you may conduct business at any People’s or First Community bank branch seamlessly.

  Is my money really safe?

Absolutely. Your deposits are insured by the FDIC up to the maximum amount allowed by law. In addition, your deposits are backed by the full strength of First Community Bank, which has capital ratios well in excess of regulatory requirements.

Will I be served by the same branch staff?

Yes, you’ll see the same friendly faces at your former Waccamaw Bank branch.

Will branch hours or special services change?

No changes are currently planned.

How will my checking, savings, money market and club accounts be affected?

At this time, the terms and conditions of these types of accounts that you previously held with Waccamaw Bank will remain unchanged. We will keep you well informed of any changes that might occur as we complete the transition.

Is there anything I need to do right now?

Yes. You will need to “claim” your accounts over the next 18 months (by December 9, 2013). You can easily do so by, for example, making a deposit or withdrawal, signing a new signature card or writing to tell us that you wish to keep your accounts active. Claiming one of your accounts will claim them all. If you do not claim your account within 18 months, it will be returned to the FDIC.

Will I continue to receive my direct deposits?

Yes, these deposits will arrive at the usual time and will be available to you on your regular schedule.

Will First Community Bank be managing my loan as well?

Your loan is now owned and serviced by First Community Bank. As a community bank, we will continue to provide service to our customers through local bankers. As you know, these are dedicated professionals that live and work in your community and are available to answer any specific questions you might have about your existing loan and assist you with any new credit request.

Can I bank at First Community Bank branches?

Not yet. We will be working to combine banking systems as quickly as possible so that you can begin to enjoy our expanded branch network. We will notify you in advance of any changes. In the meantime, simply continue to bank at your former Waccamaw Bank branch just the same as before.
